In the heart of Cornell, Ontario, this compact backyard presented a unique grading challenge — the existing slope directed water toward the house rather than away from it. Our team had to re-engineer the grade entirely: raising elevations near the home and lowering them near the garage, all while maintaining optimal drainage and preserving the structural integrity of the property.
Working from concept to completion, this full landscape design-build project was envisioned by our exclusive landscape designer, Jodie Munshaw. With her blueprint-led planning and on-site oversight, we were able to transform a previously underutilized yard into a versatile, four-season retreat perfect for entertaining, relaxing, and enjoying year-round.

The foundational phase involved reversing the grade to create proper water runoff and a balanced layout. We installed a reinforced concrete pad for a hot tub and constructed two distinct patio zones — one for dining, one for lounging — using Permacon Melville pavers for a sleek, modern look with durable performance.

The garden beds were thoughtfully designed to provide depth and vibrancy through every season. Plantings include columnar Purple Beech, Serviceberry, Japanese Maple, ornamental grasses, Hostas, and ferns, offering a lush mix of form, foliage, and seasonal interest.
